I Heart Metalics!

I especially heart metallic of the GOLD variety.  Is that wrong?  Not sure really where this love of Gold came from, my wedding rings are white gold, but when it comes to decorating I'm all about the yellow gold.

I've had this piece in my dining room since I moved in, I bought it for this house, but for over a year it has sat around in a sad state of old wood.  Not the most beautiful piece, but it does the job, holds all my precious gold dishes!

This week I had a client that wanted her piece painted Primer Red, and I thought what am I going to do with the rest of this can?  I don't get a lot of clients that want this color and I don't have anything this color in my home.  I should point out that I love RED too, but more like an accent.

It got me thinking, and I came up with this idea, based on every thing I've read about gold leafing.  Which isn't a ton, but I did notice a reoccurring theme, most pieces are primed with dark red or brown paint.  Apparently it works well under the gold.

Here is the only decent before picture I could find, but you see what I mean by boring wood?  It had a  ton of potential and good lines, very sturdy.

This is where Primer Red comes to play, two coats with a top coat of clear wax.  I did not photograph this step.  Honestly I've been so bad about blogging this last year, I didn't even think I would do a post, and then I just couldn't help myself....

I wish I could play music at this point to intro this piece to the blog world!  But let's face it, when it comes to every thing tech like, I'm lucky to use my phone...

A couple close ups...I just can't get enough of this piece.  It's my new favorite baby, it makes me want to paint the whole house gold!

And I know you want to know how I got the gold finish.  I used two tubes of Antique Gold Rub N Buff.  The actual gold leave process was more than I wanted to do, I may try it down the road on a smaller piece.  I love the Rub N Buff, amazing product.  (I wasn't paid to say that, just my opinion)

Thanks for stopping by!  Love you guys.

Stop by later this week, I'm going to have a give away!!!!

Dining Room

Please prepare yourself for picture overload.
Now that you've been warned, here is my dining room.

I will be replacing the light fixture.  This was here when I moved in, and it's not my taste, but will have to do until I can find the one that makes me swoon. (oh and affordable.)

Have I mentioned that I'm addicted to angel wings, and anything gold?

As promised, remember these chairs?  Before.

After!

Thanks for checking out my dining room, it's a work in progress, stay tuned!

Chairs, As Promised!

I try to be a woman of my word, some days it works out better than others.  If you read my party post yesterday, then you know I promised pictures of my chairs.  I'm happy to deliver!

TaDa!  Loving the green fabric.  Bestie came over today with her handy dandy pneumatic staple gun.  She put the fabric on, she's a peach.  I took them a part and cleaned the chairs and then she covered them with fabric and helped me reattach the seats.  Easier said then done, the screws didn't not want to cooperate, but in the end we won.  She wanted me to try the staple gun, nope too scary.  lol  Some day, just not today.

This is the only old picture I could find.  I'm so happy to replace these metal chairs.  I've had them for 8 years, they where Beefcake's when I met him.  Needless to say, I didn't fall in love with his chairs.  I will not miss the metal.  They are on my porch right now waiting for the neighbors to come get them.

So I half did a project.  I'm still taking all the credit, shhh, don't tell Bestie!

Design Help

So I dragged the Hubby to Joann's today, and aside from one male employee, he was the only man in there.  I guarantee it was funny!  I joked that he totally lost his 'man card'...did I mention I think I'm freaking hilarious...Hubby not so much.

Ok ok, here's where the help comes in, I bought fabric for some chair seats, and I have no idea what color to paint the chairs.  What ever color I paint the chairs I'm also paint the base of my table, I'd like them to match each other, but not the china hutch.

Fabric Sample, it's a shade lighter than the green I have on my old chairs.  We are getting rid of the old chairs, I found some I like so much better on craigslist for CHEAP!  The fabric was half off and cost almost as much as the chairs and table I bought.  The table isn't special.  It will probably be sold.

This picture is old, but it pretty much looks like this still, only MUCH messier cause the Hubby is home and has bought a lot of crap and littered my table with it...no biggy...well little biggy.  I'm not gonna lie, I'm Type A after all.  lol  I can live with the mess to have him home for a few weeks.

So what ASCP would you use?

Pink Armoire update, finally got Hubby to take the Bakelite handle off, so I could get the last of the paint off, and the handle broke...sigh.  I guess I'm buying a new handle.  I also think I'm going to use more of a know style and just fill the other whole.  Something sparkly.

The old white/emperor's silk mix turned out great, love this shade of pink!

Have a great week!

Dining Room Ideas, New House Series

So, like I've said before, I have the new house on the brain!  I went to a local furniture store recently, and found my dream dining table.  How lucky is that?  I just hope they still have it next June!  Here's a secret, I'm going to go back every month and make sure they still have it, and if I have to I will buy it and store it in my garage.  I won't miss out on this table, if I can help it!  lol

That being said, I do have a back up table I really like, and was leaning toward until I found this one.

Again with the floor plan, I know!  I just want to give you an idea of the dining space.

Here are the pics I took of the spec house.

Wall color, Sherwin Williams Tansy Green.  It's one shade darker than my kitchen color.  I plan on painting my new kitchen and eat in area the same color I have now, Ryegrass.  I love green!

Buffet, I want to put this on the wall by the door way to the kitchen.  It's a small wall and won't interrupt the flow of the room.  The buffet is SOLID wood, as is the table and bench.  I couldn't believe it, and the price is amazing.  Especially for solid wood.  Buffet $499

Pretty stuff for the buffet.

Dinning table.  Isn't it gorgeous, it extends to 120 inches and seats twelve, of course I don't have dinnerware for twelve.  I guess I'll have to buy some!  Table $799.
Bench seat $199.

I want three of these down one side of the table.  The bench will go down the other side.  Four pack of chairs $200.

How about something like these for the metal chairs?

I want two of these, one to go at either end of the table.  Chairs $249 each.

Wouldn't these be cute on the chairs?

I want a plate wrack similar to this to hang over the buffet.  Only I think I wanted it painted ivory.  It'll pop right off the green walls.

This is how I want to decorate the long wall, opposite the window.  I love the botanical prints.  I haven't decided on how many I want to hang, it might be a little pricey to hang fifteen!  I will probably shop Etsy.com till I find the right prints, and I want barn wood frames like the ones I used to hang my Barn photos.  Frame USA will love me!

Frames.

I want roman shades,  I like this color, not to dark or light.

Drapes in a cream/linen color, this is the style I prefer.  Kind of silky, and darkening.

This is the color I'm thinking for the curtains and the plate wrack.

Window hardware.
Over head lighting.

The carpet in the room is going to be beige, I know, boring.  I just don't like the idea of putting a rug on carpet, and wood flooring is not in the budget, now.
I will do something cute with the buffet and table, just now sure how or what I'm going to use to decorate them with.   Something fun and colorful to break up the room.

There you have it, the Dining Room.  What do you think?  For the next few months I will be saving all my pennies!  The hubby has already given me his seal of approval for the wood pieces.  That's a start!

The Quads Update

Do you guys even remember The Quads?  Well this is a little reminder and update all in one.  The Quads are my dining room chairs, that are living in my garage until the weather is nice enough for me to refinish them, and I find the perfect pneumatic 1/2 crown upholstery staple gun.  Say that three times real fast!  lol

I have not found the staple gun, but I'm searching for fabric.  I'm gonna need it eventually any way.  I went to my favorite upholstery foam site on the web and ordered some FREE samples.  They will send you four at a time.  Check 'em out, Diy Upholstery Supply they sell everything to do with DIY upholstery.  The prices are really good too.

So here are the four samples I ordered, what do you think?  I really have no idea what to do with these chairs.  I'm painting them to match the base of my table.  I do know that I don't want any green on them, I have plenty of green going on downstairs as it is.

Sample #1 Duramax Flax

Sample #2 Duramax Chocolate

Sample #3 Chocolate Velvet

Sample #4 Jamestown Antique Black Cotton

I'm starting to think the dark ones are too dark, my couch is really dark and they are basically in the same room, since my downstairs is an open floor plan.  The Jamestown has to much going on, I'm really thinking solid.  They have a lot of other solids to pick from and some great fabrics.  The Duramax is really easy to clean, says the site, and that is important with two kids.  The velvet is very kid friendly too, compares it to the performance quality of microfiber.

Here's a refresher of what The Quads look like, minus the fabric.  I've already taken the old fabric off and all the stupid staples have been removed.

I bought two of these to go with The Quads as arm chairs.  I know they don't match exactly, but I figure once I refinish them they will "match" enough.  Plus the price was a steal!

Now, picture this room with all six chairs reupholstered?  What color do you see them done in?  Any fabric suggestions?  Any one know of one that is easy to keep clean and to clean if needed?

Any help, comments, suggestions are welcome.  I really want to get this project done, I'm tired of sitting on my old broken chairs.  Plus I'm pretty tired of the metal.  I want a warmer feel.

Thanks for stopping by! xx
